CAMPER (Contemporary Art Mobile Public Exhibition Rig) is an elegant 1975 Dodge Empress motor-home, modified to accommodate portable exhibitions and projects. CAMPER’s mandate is to ride the road less travelled by contemporary artists to the intersections of art, education, and recreation. She’s a vehicle built to bring leisure and pleasure to our dispersed communities, and she packs a spirit of play to share with anyone along for the ride. Her programming is participatory and inclusive by design, and seeks to invite visitors to engage with the strange and unfamiliar (contemporary art) in settings both novel and close to home. Previous exhibitions in the CAMPER were accompanied by the creation and distribution of artist-made patches (She’s a textile kinda gal).
