Internal Dwellings
Lindsay Knox and Alma Louise Visscher
Exhibition Dates: December 2, 2012 - January 26, 2013
Knox + Visscher employ components of sculpture, drawing and painting that reflect both the human body and infrastructure; consequently also, the intersection between interior and exterior space. Working intuitively, the work is imbued with a sense of other and of the uncomfortable: home-like but on the verge of collapse, sheltering yet fragile. An inaccessible barrier exists between our consciousness and subconscious or rather the internal and external systems that we reside in. As George Santayana, the Spanish- American philosopher-poet, suggests, "[t]he heavens are the most constant things we know, the skies the most inconstant... it is a prejudice to suppose that instability must be sad or must be trivial" (Cloud Castles).
